It has a copyright on the map of 1842 and is from an 1846 edition of the atlas Maps of the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, published London: Chapman and Hall and engraved by Walker as stated in the bottom margin. The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) name appears in the title block. The society was formed in 1826 and committed to the publication of the most up to date scientific findings for the dispersion of knowledge to the general public. It is hand numbered in India Ink in the corner. The maps are some of the most detailed English Maps of the period. Overall, a Beautiful Map that will frame up nicely. Size: The map image measures approximately 11 1/2 by 14 1/2 inches on a 13 1/2 by 16" page with a margin all around for framing. Condition: The map is in Very Good to Excellent condition printed on a bright page with original hand coloring as issued. There are a couple of minor spots in the margin and a slightly cockle to the upper right margin, otherwise the map is very clean and bright with original hand coloring as issued, blank on the reverse.
