Up for sale is a beautiful antique HOLY BIBLE from 1880! This was a luxury book back in 1880. Both of the covers of the book are embossed and very ornate, decorated with gold gilt; the book has a ribbed spine and all edges of the pages have a gold gilt. This was a family bible and was gently handled down through the years. This old Bible is nicely illustrated. Every illustration is a full-page plate that is protected by parchment paper. There are also maps in this Bible. In addition, there are pages for Family History: Marriages, Births, Deaths. These pages were never used, they are blank (see photos). The publication date 1880 is found on the title page. CONDITION: This beautiful antique hard back Bible is complete and intact, in very good-plus condition as evidenced by the photos. The decorated, ornate covers are in very good with light age-expected corner wear. The inside covers' hinges were reinforced by the book binder. The inside covers are in very good-plus condition, with no cracking or separation present at the hinges. There are no bookplates, markings or writing on the inside covers. On the third front endpaper there is a dated gift inscription stating this Bible cam from the estate of Nellis and Maude Youngs of North East, Pennsylvania (see photo). This is the only writing I saw in this Bible. The pages are in very good to very good-plus condition. The pages are crisp, with no foxing. All pages are tight to the binding. The decorated spine is in very good-plus condition with very light wear. This antique Bible comes from a smoke free home.
