Armstrong and Son Antique (1890) and very scarce Author's Edition, first-edition hardcover book Mackay of Uganda: Pioneer Missionary of the Church Missionary Society to Uganda. With Portrait and Map About the man and the title: Alexander Murdoch Mackay (13 October 1849 – 4 February 1890) - who resembles one of Groovy's own personal heroes, Nikola Tesla in the portrait in the frontispiece of the book - was a Scottish Presbyterian missionary to Uganda known colloquially as Mackay of Uganda. Mackay studied at the Free Church Training School for Teachers in Edinburgh, then at the University of Edinburgh and finally in Berlin where, like Groovy's hero Tesla, Mackay displayed a great aptitude for mechanics, spending several years working in Germany as a draftsman. In 1876, Mackay became a missionary after hearing from Henry Morton Stanley that Uganda was looking for missionaries and he joined the Church Missionary Society, reaching as far as Zanzibar in 1876 and Uganda in late 1878. Mackay taught various skills to his Ugandan students, including carpentry and farming and was given the honorable title of Muzunguwa Kazi which translates, roughly, to "white man of work. Mackay's work in Uganda came under threat after Kiwewa came into power and MacKay left the country in 1890 passing away 4 days from malaria aged at only 40. This books chronicles the life of MacKay through the eyes of his sister, who wrote the book. I have more books up for sale and you can combine shipping. Also If you want this shipped in a box.
