This was his first anthology, first published in 1890, contributed to the popularisation of such tales as 'Jack and the Beanstalk', 'Goldilocks and the three Bears' and 'The three Little Pigs'. He published a follow up titled 'More English Fairy Tales', published in 1894. Illustrated with eight plates, and in-text illustrations. Misbound, with the title page bound before the front endpaper. Bound as title page, dedication leaf, front endpaper, half-title, frontispiece, page vii/viii. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine is faded. Light marks to the boards and spine. Minor rubbing to the spine and extremities. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, a small amount of loss of cloth to head and tail of the spine. Internally, binding is a little strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean. Small closed tear to the plate facing page 111. Plate facing page 151 is detached but present. Chip to the margin of page 255/256, with no loss of text.
