Description: For sale is a very cool 1893 Columbian Exposition Commemorative Silver Half Dollar. This coin is a milestone in US coinage because it is the very first US commemorative coin ever minted. The coin was minted so they could be sold as a fundraiser for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. They only minted 1.5 million of them, which would make them rare in itself, but because so many remained unsold they melted an unknown quantity of them so there is no telling how many are left! The obverse has the bust of Christopher Columbus and the reverse features his flagship the Santa Maria above both hemispheres. The coin is 90% silver. As you can see from the pics the coin is in great shape, and it would come in at a nice AU (almost uncirculated) grade. All lettering, date, and images are all nice and sharp. Even all of the tiny continents and lines on the globes on the reverse are present. The coin has a nice ash patina to and it has no damage or signs of cleaning. I do have multiple coins available in the exact same grade and condition if you were interested in buying more than one. They may have varying degrees of toning, but they are all AU grade. I always give discounts for multiple quantities and always combine shipping. If you buy only one you will receive the coin in the pics. This is an amazing coin to add to any vintage coin collection. Thanks!
