Description: This is one of the more attractive souvenirs from the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Several Century 21 items were made in Germany, much smaller enamel pinbacks that also were used for bolo tie slides. The plaque is copper backed and has glue or putty residue on the back as perhaps the original owner attached it to something (no idea what!) to display it. The residue is unactractive but I can't think of any reason you would have to display the plain copper back. Besides this large plaque and the set of six different small ones, a few few other enamel appliques were on several souvenirs--all made by we assume he same manufacturer in Germany. The wokmanship is excellent, the colors vibrant and where the borders between and around the enamel look super. Less expensive items in the sixties and for other fairs we have seen tend to have the seams or borders uneven or allowing the enamel to somehow "leak" into the copper-only areas I recently sold an identical plaque to this one, with just one difference; it had a smnall copper loop at the top. That would normally be for suspension, but I can't imagine anyone wanting such a large heavy piece hung on a chain around their neck. Finding two of these in roughly a one-year period is very unusual, as I've only seen about 4 or possibly 5 in the since the 1980s! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, and remember that we re shooting for december to post our world's fair sale. It will have items from 10+ world's fairs and will be highlighted by approximately FORTY scarce-to-rare World's Columbian Expo tickets. Please contact me for more details and when we will be ready to launch the sale. I have never seen an example selling for less than $100 and I'm opening bidding at just $84.99...and the Buy it Now price of $111 would be below expected market value.
