It was authorized by the law of 1930 and was issued January 8, 1968. The note pictures the first President and founder of the Republic of Turkey, Kemal Atatürk. At the end of World War I he led the Turkish War of Independence that turned the old Ottoman Empire into the modern state of Turkey. He passed away in 1938.
