Description: Battery oil was intended for use with alkali storage batteries. The oil is poured into the cell and floats on top of the electrolyte preventing air from reaching the electrolyte. They were frequently used by railroads in battery operated crossing guards so often these bottles are found near rail tracks. Likely made around the late 1910s, The Edison bottle does have a purplish hue. Both are in excellent condition - no chips or cracks. Just a little dirty on the inside. Each are small bottles - each are approx. 4" tall and 1-1/2" diameter.
