Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . .#3. - LOU GEHRIG, New York Yankees - Outfield, card Colorized photograph by famed photographer Charles Martin Conlon Issued in 1992 by The Sporting News Publishing Company and recognized by collectors as a subset within the massive Conlon Collection issued 1991-1995, this card was generally found inserted within products such as plastic sheets and other card holders and consequently received widespread distribution among marginally serious collectors; consequently, it is a bit scarcer than might be expected. Note the "Outfield" designation on card front. Gehrig played a grand total of 18 games in the outfield over his 17-year career but not a single game as a fly-chaser during the 1927 season. (He played exclusively at his customary first base station for all 155 regular season contests.) So far as we can determine, this "outfield" designation was an uncorrected error.
