Includes many of the vehicle's basic electrical devices and detailed instructions!!!! ~~WHAT IS THIS PART?~~ For those of you who think Chevrolet left room for improvement, we offer our Classic Update Series Wiring Harness Systems (For customized cars & trucks). This is the simplest way to update your classic car's wiring. In basic terms, this system allows you to rewire your car or truck with the customized upgrades you want installed. (upgrades may include: newer steering column, H.E.I., alternator, aftermarket heater & A/C system, reproduction tail light assembly, updated gauges, etc.) This system has been designed with the power capabilities necessary to run separate options. (Note: Some of these options may include power windows, stereo systems, air conditioning, computerized fuel injection / ignition system, ABS / ride control, other computerized systems, etc. Wiring for these types of options are not provided with the Custom Update system.) Our "Classic Update Series Wiring Systems" are not a fits-all system. They are custom manufactured for a specific year & model vehicle. They are a complete car wiring system, designed with the foresight, engineering and flexibility to bring your car's electrical system up-to-date. When you install this system, you will determine the routing of the wires to fit your needs. ~~TECH. INFO./NOTES~~ Take a look at all the great items that are included in the "1957 Chevy Custom Update Series Wiring System". To see an image of the descriptions, click the "View" button in the on-line catalog: A) New floor dimmer switch is provided. Wire length and connection accommodate original floor mount dimmer switch. B) Original headlight bucket grommets, parking light weatherproof boot, and tube assemblies and light sockets are included for 1955-'56. Original parking light bar components supplied for 1957. Extra long leads are supplied for custom routing. C) Accessory disconnect provided for connections to power windows, power seats, cruise control, fuel pump, power door locks, extra radio (CB) or optional power accessory. D) Replacement headlight switch with internal circuit breaker included. Also included are retention collar nut, adjustable length shaft, custom knob, extra connectors and instructions. E) Original design rear body weatherproof boot and tube assemblies and original design light sockets make attachment to original or reproduction tail light assemblies an easy plug-in. Lead wires are long enough to accommodate all body styles (including wagons). Even custom applications require these assemblies for weather protection! F) Rear body harness assembly is designed to plug into the main harness in the original under dash position utilizing existing retention clips. Flexibility in harness design allows for original or custom routing. Both 2 & 4 door models are accommodated. Rear body wiring includes backup light wires and mating connectors for backup light assemblies. License plate connectors and terminals included. Fuel tank sender wire and terminal included. Special terminals included for original style door jamb switches and overhead dome light. G) New ignition switch is included with indexed connector. Additional connectors and instructions are provided to use the original 1955-'56 and 1957 ignition switches. H) Front lighting includes extra long leads for special routing when custom under hood appearance is desired. All headlight, park light and directional light connectors and terminals are provided, as well as wiring for electric engine fan (usually recommended with AC). I) Engine wiring includes connectors for points-type and H.E.I. distributors. Power and tach connectors supplied for GM H.E.I. distributors. Alternator connectors are supplied for GM "SI" series internal regulator and "one wire" alternators. J) Engine wiring includes starter and gauge sender leads for water temp, oil pressure, and tach. Heavy 8 gauge alternator leads are supplied. Power circuits are fusible link protected. K) Instrument Cluster wiring is designed with a "cluster harness disconnect" system for easy service and assembly. All original terminals, connectors, and light sockets are also supplied for original cluster gauges. However, the best aspect to the disconnect system is that any gauge cluster package can be easily and neatly wired in. This includes Autometer™, Classic Instruments™, Dakota Digital™, Stewart Warner™, and VDO™, just to name a few. L) Heater control panel lighting, power, and blower motor leads are included for original style heaters as well as after market heat and AC updates such as Hotrod Air, and Vintage Air, etc. Connections are also wired-in for the glove box, cigarette lighter and even the original clock in the passenger side dash bezel. M) Steering column connectors will plug directly into most aftermarket steering columns as well as 1969 and later GM columns which utilize stock GM turn signal switches. The original column can also be wired by using the supplied mating connector and terminals. N) Fuse block and custom mounting plate are designed for bolt-on, under dash installation. All required hardware are supplied. Location selected for easy accessibility and clearance of under dash accessories such as Autometer™, Classic Industries™, Dakota Digital™, Stewart Warner™ and VDO™ gauge systems, Raingear™ wiper systems, Hot Rod Air™ and Vintage Air™ heat and air conditioning systems, Flaming River™, Ididit™ and original GM tilt steering columns. O) Standard turn signal flasher, hazard flasher, and horn relay mounted on fuse block. NOTE: This kit will not support an ammeter. You must convert your ammeter to a voltmeter, or use an aftermarket voltmeter. This kit only supports a self-exciting (1-wire) alternator or GM “SI” internally-regulated alternator. Adapter harnesses can be purchased for newer-style GM alternators. NOTICE! This "Classic Update Series" Wiring System should ONLY be used if you are building a custom, retro-mod / retro-rod type of vehicle. It is designed for that purpose. If your goal is to restore, or keep, your vehicle to a factory-original configuration, we highly recommend our "Original Design Series" wiring harnesses.
