Description: DESCRIPTION: Antique Japanese red lacquered wood plate and bowl with finely detailed gold maki-e decoration on the borders as well as cranes and goldfish. The plate measures about 7 1/4" in diameter and features 6 flying cranes in the center. The bowl measures 4 3/4" in diameter at the top and 2 1/8" tall and features 3 goldfish in the center and 7 flying cranes encircling the outside of the bowl. I am unsure of the age of these, but they look quite old. The plate has no markings, but the bowl has a mark on the underside of a rectangle with 3 parallel lines inside of it (see 10th picture). Both pieces have some edge nicks and cracks in the red lacquer that expose the wood underneath (see 2nd and 3rd from last picture). Also, both pieces have some wear to the gold decoration, some spots and discoloration from handling and use over the years. There are some teeny white spots of paint or something on the plate, just below the cranes (see last picture).
