Description: This is a sweet and whimsical Antique Old 19th c. American Folk Art Golden Retriever Dog Oil Painting on Canvas, depicting the charming portrait of a Golden Retriever dog. This artwork displays the portrait of this lovely, domesticated dog, who lays down with a smile on their face, and a pink tongue sticking out. In the background, a wooden fence and shrubbery can be seen. The subject of this portrait is finely rendered, with tufts of fluffy hair, paws, and facial features painted in a near lifelike manner. Signed and dated: "R. Lee '95" in the lower right corner. I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? Approximately 19 1/2 x 26 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 16 x 23 inches. Very good condition for well over a century of age and storage, with moderate gesso loss to the original period antique gilded wood frame along the corners and edges, gilding discoloration, and a few faint scuffs across the painted surface (please see photos carefully.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California, but I suspect that this artwork originates from the Northeastern United States. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
