Description: This is a spectacular Antique Old American WPA Wild West Cowboy Oregon Trail Indian Oil Painting on Artist Board, depicting an Oregon Trail caravan of settlers during the first half of the 19th century. A majestic mountain range is visible in the distance, while a large caravan of settlers appears in the center of the image. A woman in a red dress speaks with a cowboy wearing a fringed buckskin jacket, while a Native American man on horseback is offering directional guidance to the newcoming pioneers. Signed and dated: "Juan L. Olea 1960" in the lower right corner. I could not find any information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about him or his work. Olea was clearly trained as an artist in the New Deal Program of the 1930's, as this work is rendered in the classic WPA mural style of painting. Approximately 30 x 41 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 24 x 36 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period vintage frame (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
