Description: From my private collection!Original antique, Circa 1897 to 1910 Uranium UG Custard Glass Open Sugar Bowl.....Souvenir of Bancroft, Wisconsin, WI, Wis.Manufactured by the A. H. Heisey Glass Company, Newark, Ohio. Custard Glass: as the name implies, is more yellowish than milky & is opaque. Uranium was added as a colourant to make it pale yellow. And, YES, it GLOWS under UV light. This particular custard glass piece is shown in Heisey's CUT BLOCK Pattern & is nicely decorated with lovely hand painted red rose buds, green leaf accenting & red cursive lettering of town, as well as some highlights of metallic gold along top scalloped rim. It has a nice starburst bottom.....please see my images.Sugar measures 2 1/2 inches high & has a diameter of 3 inches across scalloped top.EXCELLENT CONDITION after 115+ years....floral decor retains vivid paint, & town lettering is PERFECT, with NO wear. It does show some very slight, insignificant wear to gold----not unusual after all these years. An ideal item for those who collect HEISEY glass, sugar bowls, uranium glass or Wisconsin souvenirs. Bancroft is an unincorporated village in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. As of 2022, it's population was 693. Bancroft is located in central Wisconsin approximately 10 miles south of Plover & approximately five miles north of Plainfield. The geography of Bancroft is mostly flat. There are, however, two interesting bluffs that rise prominently above the otherwise level plains. One was a large bluff, commonly referred to as Mosquito Bluff, that runs in an East-West direction. Mosquito Bluff is now separated into two large hills by Harding Road. The other prominent feature is known as The Ledge, which runs towards the North-East and is visible from I-39. This Bluff has gone by many names (Lover's Leap, Hellfire Hill, High Rock, Gulliver's Stool) but is most commonly known as The Ledge. At the top of The Ledge is an ichnite rock that has preserved traces of the passage of Climactichnites. Towns/cities near Bancroft, Wisconsin include: Plover, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Weston, Marshfield, Wausau, Oshkosh, Neenah, etc. *PLEASE NOTE: I am happy to combine shipping when you buy more than one item!
