Description: This offering is for fifteen (15) Authentic Brand Capo Spikes for stringed instruments in new condition. These are not just bent nails. They are machined-steel spikes with a formed, oval head, long point and a square, serrated shaft making them ideal for use on stringed instruments like a Banjo as a 5th String Capo. The top of the domed head is smooth, rounded. The head on this spike has the longest hook or overhang to keep the string tucked beneath the head better than any of the other varieties I offer. The shaft is square, sharp and has machined treads down the sides of the shaft for a lasting, sure grip. They don’t spin when properly installed in a tap hole. They measure: 8.7mm (11/32”) long; .8mm (.03” - 1/32”) square shaft; 2 x 1mm ( 5/64” x 1/32”) head; 1.5mm (3/64”) head overhang. A tap drill of .028” (#70) is recommended for installation. U.S. tracking is $4.00 INSTALLATION: There are no installation instructions included with the order. It's fairly straightforward— drill a tap hole and tap in the spike. Though, you’re working with something very tiny on a precious fret board and all stringed instruments are not alike. It’s all about the tap hole. The neck composition will determine the difficulty level. A pin-prick followed by a tap hole should be made in the neck where you want a string capo'd, maybe at a very slight angle. A drill bit size of .028” / #70 is recommended. Put a mark on the drill bit with a marker to the desired depth. Drill the hole then gently tapped the spike in to the proper depth to hold the string down. If all you can find is a 1/32” drill bit for a tap hole it may help to put some glue on the shaft for a solid grab. It's also recommended that the neck is held solidly while you do this and a small hand crank drill be used. Be careful if you use a Dremel type drill. It can do some quick damage. Be sure the head is pointed in the right direction before you tap it in. The shaft, being pretty much square, wont turn once it’s installed.
