Description: The Rusty Tele Of all of the Custom Shop Tele's that have come through here, there is one that has special status here at Truetone: '62 Tele Custom in Oxblood. Originally designed by a long-time Truetone team member Rusty for stock, he ended up loving it so much that he bought it for himself! Over the years, as Rusty would play his guitar on stage around L.A., others would see and inquire about it. A tweaked version was custom ordered, and it has since become a regular part of the rotation in our Custom Shop offering. As a side note, Rusty was in sales for over a decade but during the pandemic he shifted to being our in-house photographer. So, the excellent photos you see here are his work! What makes this 1962 Telecaster Custom really stand out is the striking Oxblood finish. Rarely seen on a Fender guitar, this color fits the early 60's style perfectly. The cream binding really frames the guitar, and the dark rosewood matches perfectly. Per Rusty's original design, we kept this one as a Closet Classic - so you get some aging, but no wear on the body. It's a clean looking guitar, with the finish tamed down just a bit, to give it a great vintage vibe. Of course, aesthetics only take you so far - it's really about the sound and feel. The mid-60's Oval "C" neck shape is super comfortable and very smooth to play It was Rusty's request to have the back of the neck has had the finish sanded off, which makes it a treat to play, as you won't get "stuck" on it. It's topped with a dark rosewood fretboard with a 9.5" radius and 6105 frets for easy playability. Those are the only "modern spec" changes we went with - everything else is period correct. The guitar is loaded with Custom Shop 63 Tele pickups, which recreate the early 60's Tele sound that is known and loved by players all over. Whether you need spine tingling twang, hard hitting rock bottoms or glistening clean highs, this one gives it to you. Not only these period correct, but they are some of our favorite Tele pickups here. As a Tele aficionado, Rusty went through a lot of guitars and settled on this set, as he knew they would provide the classic 60's Tele sound on stage. Other features include a vintage style bridge with Gatton saddles for improved intonation - they are angled to compensate for string length and are made of polished, unplated brass. They also have chrome height screws, springs, and intonation screws. This is a special Tele - you can see and hear why for yourself by coming to Truetone Music, or by ordering right here to be shipped to your home.
