Description: Hand-made paper is an art form which balances the qualities of dimension, texture, color, and design to create hand-crafted artworks with the appeal of sculpture and the look of today. The pieces are made by first mixing the 100% cotton fibers with filtered water to return them to pulp. Next, handfuls of pulp are placed in the original mould and worked by hand, weaving and interlocking the fibers to create a strong bond. The water is removed by various processes, and the thickness, texture, and pattern of piece are determined by the shape of the mould. The new-born pieces are then carefully inspected, allowed time to naturally air dry, and readied for final hand decoration and mounting. The art of making paper is an ancient one, but with the advent of industrialization, the craft of making paper by hand was virtually forgotten. Fortunately, the last few decades have seen a genuine renaissance in the all but lost art of paper making.
