Description: This phonograph player is the Alura Talking Machine, made by The Austin Co. in Rhode Island, circa 1920. Most of the label has been ripped from the bottom. The bottom of the cabinet is 12" x 12.25". It's overall 9" tall including all the parts, and has an overall weight of 8 lbs. 13 oz. The circular platform on top is 8" wide. A 12" wide record would just barely fit without hitting the base of the arm. The machine is hand crank, and the top will rotate (noisily), but I can't guarantee it will work. I unscrewed the bottom to find a Phillips head screw loose inside, but it looks too new to be original. Three sides are plain, and one has an art deco design with a fabric backing. The decorative wood piece has a bunch of cracks and some glue behind it. One small sliver fell off a corner when I removed it (see arrow in photo), so I glued it back with wood glue. It seems slightly undersized, which I attribute to the wood drying over the last 100 years. The wood cabinet has a mahogany finish, and shows overall expected wear, plus the top has a bunch of marks from the needle. The base of the arm is supposed to have three screws connecting it to the wood, but two are missing. The arm easily pops out for easier shipping.
