Both used them for overdrive tones more than full fuzz, and as such they favored lower gain transistors in their FFP. The Texas Twist uses a medium gain NTE123 favored in the famous "Square Face" pedals, and a slightly higher gain BC183 from the EJ signature version. Together they create a wide range of beautiful sounds, from mild rhythm crunch, subtle overdrive, blazing leads and furious fuzz insanity, all of these tones can be unlocked with your guitars volume control. The added Smooth control can be used to set it so that your preferred overdrive tone is available with your guitar's volume at full. When I first conceived this I knew it would sound good, I just didn't know it would be this good.
