Description: Gamblers and Gambling, Henry Artemus (1896). EXTREMELY RARE FIND, this original 1896 hardcover volume is one of the essays in Henry Ward Beecher's influential collection of "Lectures to Young Men". Beecher, a Congregationalist minister, abolitionist and social reformer was at one point considered the most famous preacher in the nation. The cover of this 125+ year old volume is significantly darkened, but the silver and rose colored imprint is still visible. Rubbing and scuff marks appear along the edges and on the corners. Though creased, the hinges are intact and the binding is secure. Interior pages are slightly tanned, but unmarked and undamaged. All text is clean and sharp.
