Description: James Patrick Sinnott Devereux [1903 1988] was a general in the United States Marine Corps who was the commanding officer of the 1st Defense Battalion during the defense of Wake Island in December 1941. General Devereux was captured on Wake Island and held as a prisoner of war along with his men after a 15-day battle with the Japanese forces. General Devereux was released in September of 1945 and retired from the military and was elected to the United States House of Representatives. Listed for auction is a [ALS] autograph letter signed by General James Patrick Sinnott Devereux dated February 2, 1950. The letter is addressed to a collector and is signed ''J.P.S. Devereux'' in black fountain pen above his typed name. The letter measures 8.50 x 11.00 inches, it has collector's notations in pencil [which can be removed], expected mail folds otherwise it is in very good condition.
