Well, I sure Hope So !! This one is indeed a Treasure ! from way down & deep ! in the G.D. Vault !! Some serious ' Old-Time Hockey ' G.D., as I once heard someone out there so-eloquently say. I mean this CD features original recordings " produced by Owsley Stanley ( aka. Bear ! ) " -- the only-known version of Garcia singing " Promised Land " -- an alternate version of " Cream Puff War " -- a Total-Must ! for fans of Pigpen ! & the Early-Dead Era ! -- ( DECD282 ) !! Wow ... right ? Oh man ... Well, here's my additional take on this here treasure ... first-off - it sounds Great ! As you, would expect - I suppose ... but it really-really does. I mean you can really jam this one and just let it loose on your speaker-cones ! If that's your thing, naturally ... It is just all so very different than the average G.D. - seriously -- and is so appropriately titled as " Rare Cuts & Oddities " ! That, it is ... just As-Advertised ! Close to Ten ( ballpark ... ) of these tracks were performed by the band live in the '60's & '70's primarily ... the likes of Promised Land - Good Lovin - Cream Puff War - Silver Threads and Golden Needles - Not Fade Away - Big Railroad Blues - I'm A King Bee - Caution ( Do Not Stop On Tracks ) - and last ( actually, the 1st track ! ), but most-definitely not least ... Walking The Dog ! Ahhh ... '85 !!! My old buddy was backstage at the Henry J. on 11/21/85 when they decided to kick-it down for the West Coast - in the ultimate honor ... Show-Opener !! I'm still jealous ( admittedly. ) about that Legendary ! G.D. folklore story. Hey, someone has to share'em ! The simple fact is, if you like your " Good Ol' Grateful Dead " .... or as I should probably ' properly ' say - your " Pre-Good Ol' Grateful Dead " - then this release is an absolute no-brainer - and Must ! be added to your cherished G.D. Collection. No but really on that thought before ... if " Good Ol' Grateful Dead " was coined in 1967 ( I'm thinkin' ? ) ... then this 1966 release definitely fits that bill of " Pre " ! This one is sweet, jumpy, and is really just some good-feelin' Rock n' Roll -- I love it, if you can't already tell. Ha ! This release originally came out in 2005, sold out fairly fast- and pretty much became very scarce & very-rare even faster ! As you are probably aware, this CD was also " re-released " for the 2013 Record Store Day, but the one offered here ... it's the Rare-Original ! from 2005 - with an Amazing ! Liner Notes Booklet !! Serious Collector's most-definitely ! need this one, and hey, it's so cool - yep, you probably need both - so here's a 1st Printing ! This one is All You ! ... a totally '66 G.D. Treasure !!
