A laboratory guide to staining of bacteria by Langdon Frothingham (1866-1935), an American pioneer veterinary pathologist who co-discovered Johne's disease while studying at the Veterinary School of Dresden with Dr. Heinrich Albert Johne. He was particularly interested in tuberculosis, glanders, mycosis and rabies.. Frothingham, during 1895, was Assistant in Bacteriology and Veterinary Science at the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University. He then took an appointment as Instructor in Pathology at the Harvard Veterinary School, where he taught until the school closed in 1901. Following this, he was Austin Teaching Fellow in bacteriology in the Harvard Medical School 1901 to 1906, Instructor in bacteriology 1907 to 1914, and Assistant in Comparative Pathology from 1923 until his retirement in 1928.
