Although the attack failed, it marked the beginning of Castro's campaign to overthrow the government of Fulgencio Batista to install a revolutionary government. Castro survived the attack and was eventually imprisoned. His revolution triumphed in 1959 and today Cuba remains the Western Hemisphere's only one-party communist state. The poster we are offering -- MARTIRES del 26 de julio 1953 (MARTYRS of July 26, 1953) -- contains 61 black and white photos, as well as the names, of the men who died during (or in the aftermath of) the Moncada barracks attack. The poster measures approximately 23 1/2 by 17 inches (43 by 60 cm). The poster is not dated.
