This was a wonderful show featuring the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) #4077 in the Korean War. The show was large part comedy, but equal part serious as they dealt with life and death on a daily basis and the monotony of being on the front lines in a war zone. Alan Alda recounted in his book about the lessons he learned from filming the show, and how important it was for the actors to be a cohesive group just like the personalities they were representing. He knew that they would need to replicate the same cohesiveness that a real M.A.S.H. unit would have had. Prior to filming the show, none of the actors knew each other.
