Description: Offered here a large (84 x 96 !!) antique patchwork quilt from just after the Civil War. The pattern is a variant of ‘Robbing Peter to pay Paul’ and the pattern is made entirely of early indigo rags. This accounts for the beautiful blue and white aspect of this quilt. It also accounts for a number of the flaws in as much as the more used, worn pieces of indigo rags did not hold up to the use of the quilt. Because of the size of this piece I was unable to photograph it in its entirety. So I photographed it in halves. Next to each of the halves I picture the weak and worn parts of that half. There is also quite a bit of faded indigo fabric in this quilt. But overall this quilt is sound and sturdy with good use still in it. This is due to the beautiful close quilting stitches. The ends are slightly frayed. For folks who might want to use this on a bed, I’d advise mending the worn parts to prevent further loss. The wonderful clean appearance of this quilt makes that effort worth it. Thanks for looking into my auctions.
