Coffee table consists of an octagon beveled edge glass that is very beautiful and compliments the base quite nicely. Glass top has scratches but no chips or breaks. Glass is still beautiful but if you want to be perfect you can order new glass from your local glass shop. Coffee table consists of an aluminum base plated in a brass. Brass plating has no pitting or dents but does show some patina such as light scratches but very minimal. Some tarnishing in some areas but very minimal. Brass plating is still gleaming with beauty and in my opinion can be used and still looks beautiful. Coffee table is very solid and sound and sturdy. This coffee table will compliment your mid century modern 1970s decor and grace your mid century modern home. This is not a solid aluminum metal base.
