Description: (Wiz); (Eggers, John H.). ORIGINAL PEN, INK & WATERCOLOR WASH DRAWINGS SIGNED "WIZ", possibly as illustrations for a children's book about CHILDREN IN SOLDIER'S UNIFORMS intended to be published by John H. Eggers. New York, John H. Eggers, (1920). Four original pen & ink drawings by "Wiz" on 10-1/2 inch high by 17 inch wide board, each portraying the adventures of either toy soldiers or young children in uniforms. Credits stating "Copyright 1920 - John H. Eggers, N.Y." printed on 1/4 inch high by 3-12 inch wide strips of paper are mounted at the bottom of each 4-1/2 inch high by 7-1/2 inch wide image. The finely executed pen & ink wash drawings represent pages 29, 30, 33, and 34 of what is presumably a children's book with those representing page 33 and 34 being upside down relative to the other two illustrations, as would be the case when the book's pages were later printed onto folio sheets and folded prior to being cut. The charming drawing illustrating page 29 depicts a child or toy soldier in uniform standing in front of dolls and stuffed animals standing against a wall with the caption "A-tuhn-shun!". A dog peeking in through the dark doorway is choosing to retreat. Page 30 depicts a child in a First World War vintage uniform fleeing after being startled by a donkey peeking out from the bushes. This image is captioned "Oo-h!". The drawing for page 33 is illustrated with an image of a child in cavalry uniform riding a rocking horse as a young girl attired in a nurses uniform rides behind. The caption reads "Off for the Front". The last drawing, illustrating page 34, portrays 2 young boys, one in an army uniform, the other attired as a sailor. They are standing together on the shore across from the Statue of Liberty with Manhattan's skyline in the background. Their arms around one another, the young sailor points to the statue of liberty. The illustration is captioned "She's My Gal". Each drawing is signed "Wiz". There is soiling and some light staining and the edges of the board are lightly bumped. Good. John H. Eggers published numerous children's books in the early part of the 20th Century, including many miniatures. Among these are "Puss in Boots", "Aladdin", "Robin Hood", "Dot & Don Washing", and a series of miniature books on birds. I UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE ABOVE AUTOGRAPH!
