Description: For your consideration is this neat little sword, a scarce P. Knecht-marked infantry hanger/artillery cutlass dating from the early 19th century. The Knecht family manufactured swords in Solingen, Germany from around the late eighteenth century up until 1840. This sword’s blade is stamped “P. Knecht” - most likely referring to Peter Knecht, who was active between ca.1820-1840. The unfullered blade is interesting; it’s shorter than most infantry hangers from the same general timeframe & has a yalman, a feature more commonly found on sword blades from the Balkans/Turkey/Eastern Europe. The hilt is in good shape and appears to be an all-brass, slightly scaled-down interpretation of a British P1796 Light Cavalry Sabre grip. This remains an extremely well-balanced and light sword after roughly 200 years, still very sturdy too. There’s about 1mm. of lateral movement between blade & hilt if you shake it around with a little force, but it’s solid otherwise.
