Description: single 19th century very rare "reaper" doorknob designed and fabricated by mallory-wheeler company, new haven, ct. the figural doorknob features a reaper lying down in a pastoral surrounding with tools and possibly stalks of wheat. the casting is crude and exhibits allover wear. the bas-relief scene is encircled with a single ring and bayleaf border. the shank and setscrew opening are in good condition with wear consistent with age. very hard to find and highly collectible. other mallory-wheeler doorknobs included in this "figura" series include the "standing indian, "steam engine" (often referred to as the the locomotive), vampire, steamship, etc. many were patented by charles and franks andrews, and assigned to the company in the 1880's.
