This storyboard drawing was rendered by Disney artist Jorgen Klubien in graphite and ink on 8″ x 5.5″ paper. The storyboarding process, in the form it is known today, was developed at Walt Disney Studios during the early 1930s, after several years of similar processes being in use at Walt Disney and other animation studios. Essential in the process of creating effective storytelling for the final product, Jorgen Klubien’s impact on the narrative can’t be understated, and his impact on the film is showcased in his remarkable storyboards. (Note very few of Klubien’s story board art for this movie was signed by him)The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982, while he was working as an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco; Disney released the film through its Touchstone Pictures banner because the studio believed the film would be “too dark and scary for kids”. The film was met with both critical and financial success, grossing over $76 million during its initial run. This stop-motion masterpiece was the first animated film to receive an Academy Award Nomination for Best Visual Effects!
