Description: Where to begin? This beautiful display specimen of Cuprite micro-crystals adorning a massive Cuprite crystal and accompanied by Cerussite, many of which are included with either Serpierite or Duftite, is a one-off! I have seen no other representations of this form and complexity. This is a true Museum Piece and deserves to be placed in competition for Best of Show. The specimen is mounted on a 4”x4”x1” acrylic base annotated with the stone’s pedigree. (Weight includes the base.) An amazing stone! and the photos tell the story. Tsumeb mine is so unique that its very creation is open to debate. Prevalent research has led to the theory that the Tsumeb Mine is the volcanic shaft of a super volcano that erupted 2 billion years ago. The eruption lasted for approx. 100,000 years. 1.5 BYA the dome collapsed filling the throat with sand. There are two aquifers that transect the shaft. The volcanic aquifers are laden with Gallium, sulfates, phosphates and the like creating the stage for crystal formation. Tsumeb is one of the most prolific and highly acclaimed mines in the world producing very high-quality mineral specimens that have been coveted in collections since it starting operating in 1907. Tsumeb Mine closed in 1996. All mineral specimens from Tsumeb are currently in private collections or museums. These stones are 2,000,000,000 years in the making!
