Description: Todd Warner - "He Sang Like a Canary" - Jail Bird Series 2013 - Original Sculpture "He Sang Like a Canary" is one of a set of original (one of a kind) sculptures created by Todd J Warner. It is 22.5" high by approximately 9" across. As seen in one of the photos, the sculpture comes apart and will be shipped this way in separate boxes to avoid damage to the bird - the bottom piece is very heavy. With humor and insight, Warner sculpted fantastical animal artwork; since his youth in rural Michigan, he found a kinship with animals. They inspired his childhood sketches and were the focal point of his sculptures, although he also sculpted people as well. With skill and intuition, he captured the essence and nature of animals using unique techniques. His pieces were created using various media including clay, steel, wood, and even fossilized coral. He finished his creations with colorful and careful painting, bringing them to life at last. Warner explains, “My sculptures are whimsical and sensitive; they have their own spirit.” Todd Warner was an internationally renowned sculptor known for his whimsical and endearing creations. Born on 3 June 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in Michigan, Warner studied art at Ferris State College and Central Michigan University, majoring in art and commercial art studies. He began his career as a professional sculptor in 1967, creating imaginative pieces and intricate installations while teaching art in numerous schools in Michigan for a few years. Warner exhibited his art in over forty solo shows in the United States and abroad and his fanciful sculptures can be found in countless in zoos, museums, and private collections. Among his collectors were Zsa Zsa Gabor, “Good Morning, America”’s Charlie Gibson, the New York Thruway, the Greater Orlando Airport Authority, David Copperfield, and the headquarters of USA Today. Todd Warner passed away in 2022. Due to the value of this item, a signature will be required upon delivery.
