Description: Vintage Cambridge Glass Chantilly Etched WATER GOBLET STEMS TWO Stems - 7-7/8" Tall, 3-5/8" OD Across top of bowl Unfortunately, the only pair I have at this time. They are in excellent condition - I'm calling them as close to mint as I ever hope to find for crystal of this age. No wear or damage. Crystal clear (reflections from surroundings may distort clarity in photos). You can expect an occasional very tiny bubble encased in the glass, or a tiny stray dot or mark from the hand etching, but you have to be specifically looking very hard and very close to find either. These are not considered defects. They are inconsistencies found in all elegant glass and expected as being part of the glass making and hand done decorating processes. Cambridge Glass used their graceful Chantilly etch from 1938 to 1958, mostly all on clear crystal, but a select few pieces were done in ebony black that was gold encrusted within the etch, and some clear with a gold trim around the top. This design was a companion to the popular sterling flatware pattern of the time, also called Chantilly, produced by Gorham Sterling. Both were a favorite choice of many WWII Era and 1950's brides for their wedding crystal and flatware registries. The Chantilly etch consists of large double scrolls running parallel to the rim of the goblet, thus framing a garden of pretty flowers. The first publication that included information about the new Chantilly etching was the Crockery & Glass Journal in February of 1939. Only Chantilly etchings are found on the number 3625 stems. These lovely stems were described as being not only graceful, but appearing as if they were draped and cinched in robes. If you are new to collecting elegant glass and would like to build a stemware collection, Chantilly is a wonderful choice! Its popularity and large production allow it to be more available than many other patterns, and it was made in a large variety of bowl shapes to accommodate all drinks and beverages. This allows for a wonderful starting point for a new collector as it is good quality and just as beautiful on your table as other less produced etchings, but a bit more affordable for a new collector. It also allows for a very lovely, full-rounded large collection to be sought after on your antiquing jaunts...... which for me is the most fun part in building any collection! I love this pattern and tend to search it out. I currently have sets of 4 in wine, waters, iced teas, and champagnes available. And I will list odd singles or pairs if you just need one or two to fill in. As long as I can buy them right and find them in excellent non-damaged condition, I will continue to look and list them at prices less than a replacement company. If you find yourself falling in love with the elegance of it all, please check back once in a while.
