Description: Interesting 1860s carte de visite of a man in a top hat, with what looks like a bullet? hole in the middle of it and a hand drawn bird sitting on top! The man is holding what appears to be a rolled up map with more hand-drawn symbols ("Bird's Eye View"), and what appears to be a cloth bag with the number 5000 on it. Maybe it's a map of a claim along with a $5000 bag of gold or silver? There were many mines around Sacramento, where this was photographed. Studio imprint on the back is Reed & Co,117 J Street, Sacramento. An intriguing image, one I have never seen another example of. 4" x 2.5". Very good antique condition with light to normal wear for its age.Boxed & signed Priority Mail.
