The pattern calls for all items to be crocheted in a 2-ply yarn, and as this pattern was released when yarns were standardised you should be fine using a modern 2-ply, however do work your tension square first and change hook or ply as necessary to obtain the correct tension given in the pattern before embarking on this lovely project.
